Twins baseball!!!

Tomorrow it starts. Brad Radke takes the mound in Seattle to kick off the 2005 season. If Morneau and Mauer live up to expectations we could have our best team since the early 90's. The pitching staff is intact with Joe Mays looking like he did two or three years ago. The biggest question mark for the Twins is their middle infield. Will Rivas finally have a solid year at the plate? Can Jason Bartlett handle the pressure of major league baseball? There are other questions, Will Mauer stay healthy? What can he do over a full season? How will Lohse rebound from a disappointing season last year? One of the top baseball analysts picked the Twins to win the World Series this year. I'm watching the Red Sox and Yankees play right now and wondering how much better the Yankees could get. Their offense and pitching both look better than last year. The Red Sox don't look as strong. Their pitching staff lost Pedro Martinez and Derek Lowe and replaced them with Matt Clement and David Wells. Edgar Renteria is a good addition for them at shortstop. I don't see them winning the division over the Yankees, but they didn't win it last year and won the world series. They look like the wild card to me and once you get to the playoffs anything can happen. The Twins have a shot at being really good this year but I'll save any predictions til I see them play a few games. The season starts in less than 24 hours and I'm excited to see this years' team. Go Twins!

They lost. Seattle's first baseman hit two homeruns for 5 runs. One game's not that big a deal in baseball. There's another game tonight and 160 more after that. Johan Santana is pitching tonight. He won the Cy Young award last year and should only get better.

I'd be willing to bet if you wrote a story about the latest game or this years picks or some such thing and sent it to the Pioneer they would publish it. They might even ask you to write for pay... you never know. Maybe a little side job for fun. :)

They look pretty good so far. Morneau has been on a tear since coming back from his beaning. Mauer looks like he's as good as advertised. I'd like to see Hunter and Cuddyer hit with some consistency although they seem to come through in the clutch. The pitching staff is coming together nicely.

The Whitesox have been world beaters so far this year. They've been awfully lucky though and aren't that far ahead of the Twins. They have serious questions in their bullpen and I can't see their rotation playing at such a high level for the whole of the season. I mean does anyone believe Jon Garland is Cy Young material.

The Yankees and Red Sox are both looking pretty ordinary this year. The western division is weaker than it has been in recent years. Seems to me the door is open for the Twins. I'm thinking it'll be a world series rematch from years past. I just can't decide whether its from 65, 87 or 91. The three best teams in the NL are the Dodgers, Cardinals and Braves. Watch out for the Marlins though. Their young pitching staff could be tough if they get the wild card spot.
